Harper’s first birthday has come and gone. I often read captions about mothers fighting back tears on their kid’s birthdays because they are growing up too quickly! I finally know exactly how they feel. I no longer have a baby, but a toddler. I still remember how tiny she was when she was born, all the sweetest memories of her realising life around her. The moments where we connected and she knew who I was. Each month was so different. She has been a joy since day one, and now my Bambi-na is ONEderful!
So this was my first time planning a birthday party without my sister. For those who know her, you would know how magical and epic her kids parties are (all on a budget and all due to her crazy creative and DIY skills) So for Harper’s party I knew I had to go simple, but effective and pretty. I chose an ice-cream theme. Apart from the fact that Harper LOVES ice-cream, I thought it was a sweet theme, simple decor inspiration, and fun colours to play with. We did not have a budget to hire a venue or go crazy, but even if we did I am not sure if we would have used it. We chose to do Harper’s party at my mom’s house, which is the same venue we had our wedding, my kitchen tea, my sister’s kids parties, friend’s bachelorettes and baby showers and our engagement party. This house is filled with so much love and memory, it felt like the perfect place.
I chose to go with soft colours, because I have other ideas for brighter parties, and therefore it gives me a chance to play with a variety of colour palettes.
